Final Essay

This years course on “American Way Of Life” was to basically find out certain key things that happen everyday in America that can be good to its country or bad from our opinion. Today there are so many ways to describe America and what things are being done that it becomes hard to side with what is happening in this country or to have your own belief of how to live an American way of life. There were so many things being covered through the year like seeing how the government, capitalism, birth, health care, economic inequality, and how food works. Many of these things have reasons to accept and enjoy the fact that its apart of everyday life here in America.
In many certain ways American ways of life in my opinion all come down starting off as a trend its like a monkey see monkey do kind of thing. To start off the eating habits of many Americans are least to say a pattern some eat healthy some don’t. When you take someone who’s not healthy and put it next to someone who is there’s a big difference. Lots of unhealthy people eat foods that are not very good for the body for example lots of chain restaurants, take out, and junk. Out of every other American the eating habits are very similar because of advertisements that run through the media everyday like through t.v, ads, vending machines, and many others. Bu trends don’t only have to be with food but also with things like birth and with the doctors at hospitals and even religions. Many people say that there should be no reason to have more babies in this world due to an over population. In my opinion I think that there is nothing wrong with birth because of the simple fact that it is apart of our everyday life no one can stop the next person from having another child and having a child is something that many woman or men want one day and that’s where trends come into play once again not only one American has a baby but it is advertised in the world from the people themselves to have a baby and nowadays having a baby is something that needs to happen in everyday American life. Religion also in my opinion is apart of American way of life. There is a lot of people who follow a certain religion and sometimes there are people who like me for instance have a belief in Christianity but don’t follow the religion as deep as true followers. It can be that religion is something that people feel they need to have and at times im gonna admit that I feel like that. I consider religion a trend something that is out in the world that is put out there as a need in anyone’s life. After going through this course I noticed that the American way of life revolves around a lot of trends and that is just the cornerstone of what American lifestyle is about.
The most craziest things that I find so awkward the most is the whole health care issue in America. I have health care and they pay at times for the medication I need and what not but there was this one time where I needed something I don’t remember what it was but they paid half and made my mom pay the other half they didn’t wanna fully cover the medication and that wasn’t the first time they’ve done something like that. In general there is a lot of times when health care in America half ass they’re jobs there are so many sick people out there that need the help and sometimes they wont even help. It shows that life here in America in my opinion is independent everyone only thinks about themselves and when it comes to health care they’re very choosy on what and how they should help. Another crazy thing to me is how many many people in America including me are living in this country but we are being watched and abused by the governments rules and regulations. They control everything in this freaking country including having industrial food places harm these animals and places like McDonald’s go about and sell these foods that are killing people here in America. Not only killing people but if the government was caring enough they would enforce things that would be better for the country not make it worse. I think that AWOL has developed by us the people living in America. We are the cause for what’s going on today from trends to not caring about the planet earth. The reason I say that is because everything that has happened up until now was created by man and the technology that is created and used on vegetation and animals can one day soon be used on human life and its turning AWOL into some computer world that’s not even natural to begin with. The one thing I also truly believe is that the people of America will be the cause of a collapse like on Easter Island and because of us we are letting these things happen to the earth. There are so many ways of life here in America which make the definition of AWOL become endless and which makes me still want to know more about it and why these harmful things being done is really that necessary.

Collapse Assignment #2

There are many things in life today that can lead to a collapse here in America. I personally have three points to prove why. I think that climate change, an economic failure, a pandemic. Those three things are the most serious things to me that are slightly hinting in the world today which is kind of scary and can also lead to a collapse.
Climate changes are very crucial to the world as it was to Easter Island. Some claim that it was a climate change that caused the trees and vegetation to disappear on the island. If that was the case then just imagine if there was a climate change in New York....what would happen then? The thoughts of summer, spring, winter, and fall all shifting is scary enough but the outcome can be dangerous to the people as it is to the world. If it was true that a climate change done that to Easter Island then it might have the same effect on New York. But then again we also have technology that the villagers in Easter Island didn’t have which means the result can be slightly different. But who said nature can’t beat technology.
A collapse in America with a climate change is worse enough but with how the economy is looking today I wouldn’t be surprised to see a collapse happen to an economic failure. With everything going downhill people losing jobs, places going out of business, and even companies losing money would cause people to wave riots and go crazy. Crime would increase and murder as well. People get upset with things like this and in these times everything in life revolves around money and for it to become an issue will have every single person going haywire. Then therefore people will be the cause of they’re own collapse.
Today there is a big case of the swine flu going around and it really is becoming a serious matter it has reached its highest level at this point and is a pandemic. But is it the start of a worldwide sickness? Can it turn into something even worse? A worldwide pandemic is something that is so unpredictable along with the climate change and economic crisis. The whole idea of a worldwide disease or sickness spreading throughout the world is crazy it has a lot of reason for its actions. Like the cleanliness of people and how the people treat the world is why things like this happen. All these things can result into a huge collapse on America but the main question I have for all this is for what purpose is this happening?

Final Food Assignment

Living in New York there’s many different kinds of foods around. Supermarkets for example have foods like canned products, meats, fruits, and bottled beverages. Restaurants in other cases sells food that is being cooked and prepared for you as the buyer and then being consumed. Even though America is consuming these foods from all of these places a lot of the foods that is being eaten is really bad. Bad meaning that before these foods are being introduced to us they become harmed before it even gets to our systems. Starting from animals being tortured to the fruits and vegetables being grown on a farm and having to be sprayed with pesticides. On a farm the animals for instance happen to be tortured and the craziest thing is that lots of advertisements that goes through the media today shows farm animals roaming around freely to their hearts content but in reality these animals are being harmed in the most worst ways. The cows for example are abused they are confined into small areas with many other cows and a lot of these industrial places are feeding these cows food that gets them bigger in weight. This puts a lot of stress onto the cow and it gets them sick which is not good for lots of people who eats beef. My whole idea of why many industrial places do these thing to the cows is all balled down to the making of many. Money is the main drive in a lot of peoples mind all over the world especially America. So in other words the bigger or better the cow can become the more money these industrial places will make. With that being said it kind of goes the same for the fruits and vegetables. All the fruits and vegetables are being sprayed down by pesticides that are not really healthy for the body. These vegetation products are being shipped and treated as if they were toys given to a three year old and given to America. I’ve always been told when I was younger to always wash my fruits and vegetables before I eat it and I’ve always done that until today. But lots of times the reason to always wash your fruits and vegetables thoroughly is because they are being put in factories where they are not in a very clean place. Out of all the vegetation you buy from a supermarket or a market lots of these fruits happen to have at times wax that no one can never notice but its on there and also we as buyers don’t really know where these products have been the most that we can figure is that they’re grown on a farm and being shipped to us. I personally think that there are many ways to not harm meats and vegetation but the reason why these industrial places do these harmful things to nature is still unknown to me. McDonald’s food is the most advertised and also most unhealthiest food being sold to America but people still tend to buy it. My reason for that is mainly all the things industrial food places do the animals that are made into our food like chicken nuggets and big macs are so artificial. Even the french fries from McDonald’s are artificial they contain beef broth. Which overall McDonald’s is definitely not vegetarian friendly.
On top of the harmful things that are being done to the animals and vegetation, artificialness becomes an insert into many foods today and it is rapidly increasing which is causing harm to us. Lots of food today have artificial things being done to them that isn’t natural like the french fries from McDonald’s that have beef broth and a whole bunch of other crap. Its just to enhance the flavor in the food which attracts people because of the big flavor difference that becomes good to peoples taste buds. But at the same time its how the food becomes artificial in the first place. Like in the movie “our daily bread” the poor chicks were being treated as if they were dolls of some sort. They were processed numerous amounts of times through countless machines. Then after the little chicks were being given hormones to enlarge them along with their breast.....its so messed up because they are given these things then killed and then processed into things like chicken nuggets which is still served to us with the hormones in the chicken while we eat them. Also the ways lots of industrial places are using mounts and mounts of high fructose corn syrup in products...like where is the real sugar. Why must they use things that are harmful to the people its creating obesity and killing people in the process. My overall point is that industrial food leaders are killing people and animals. They are creating food that is not natural its basically fake food. But people in America will continue to consume artificial food because it has already made its mark.

Collapse Assignment 1

After researching about Easter Island I found many interesting things from its culture to its collapse. The island was populated with Polynesian people who have mysteriously disappeared at a point in time. But one main thing that really stood out to me in interest was the forest destruction on Easter island. Basically on the island almost every tree and its species became extinct which made Easter island look as if it was a prairie. The whole reason of the forest destruction some believe was a climate change on the island and some say that it was done due to a deforestation done by the islanders. Even if either way both ways was crucial to the island because if the islanders did deforest their island then they were the reason for the decline in their civilization in the 17th and 18th century. But besides all that with the tress being gone it also had affected the soil grounds on the island and the island pretty much had a loss of vegetation and the people on the island mainly ate chickens and other nearby creatures like rats. In other words these people became people who only ate meat and didn’t consume any kind of vegetable after the loss of the trees. The whole point of some people saying that the loss of the trees were due to the climate change can be debatable because currently in the world today our population of people are fighting global warming which in many kinds of cases climate change feels as it is shifting. Many years ago I can remember when I was younger it’ll be warmer in August but in the previous year 2008 the weather feels kind of funny and even today in the month of June some days feel a little to cold to call it near summer. One other thing that caught my interest was the statues (moai) the islanders build. The statues basically symbolize a deceased long ear chief or important person. It amazes me how the statues are symbolized, it shows they appreciated the person enough to build a statue for them its kind of like a praise or ritual of some sort. Its kind of like how in the U. S today important people are praised for their efforts and put out into the world through the use of technology and the media just to get the importance of the person into the viewers minds. The only big difference between Easter Island and the United States is that on the island there wasn’t very much technology and their resources where very limited, which made their island very old fashioned which also gives it reason to why they may have become disappeared along with everything else the climate change and the loss of the resources in the process. While in the U. S we have the technoloy to save lives and endure things like climate changes and our resources are always their food never becomes a issue but can be harmful to us then in the island their food were natural right from the source.

AWOL Break HW

Justin Rodriguez

Health Care - The treatment and management of illness, and the preservation of health through services offered by the medical, dental, pharmaceutical, clinical laboratory sciences (in vitro diagnostics), nursing, and allied health professions. Health care embraces all the good in services designed to promote health, including “preventive, curative and palliative interventions, whether directed to individuals or to populations” ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare )

The health care experience I have had for the past years has been very present and helpful but at the same time also very selfish on certain situations. The reason why I say that health care is present and helpful to me is because whenever I had been sick or anyone in my family was sick medicare which is the health coverage we have had always came in handy but also on the other hand at times medicare didn’t want to help. What I mean by didn’t want to help is that on certain medications or surgeries that I or any other person in my family needed medicare either doesn’t help at all or they just put half of what is needed to pay for the medications or etc. I personally had spent many times in the emergency room but not me being a patient but my friends or family as for I can remember. Being in a emergency room is the most unhealthy thing in my opinion. Like for example Brook Dale hospital in Brooklyn, the emergency room is full of sick patients laying on a bed waiting hours and hours until a doctor comes to help them and the whole fact that all these patients are sick or wounded in some way that they have to wait hours until they are being seen by a doctor. This brings it all back to the American way of life where nowadays out of lets say 100% of doctors in my opinion only 45% are dedicated to their job and the rest all they really think about is the money and what other benefits they may have out of being a doctor.
